What's the S.T.A.B.L.E. Course about?
The care of sick and/ or premature newborn infants requires preparation on the part of hospitals of all acuity levels. A uniform, simple standardized process of care and comprehensive team approach can improve the overall stability, safety and outcome of an infant. The S.T.A.B.L.E. mnemonic, Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab Work and Emotional Support, is used to identify the specific post resuscitation areas that are implicated among the leading causes of neonatal demise in the U.S. as well as serving as a guide for practice in potentially difficult circumstances in the care of vulnerable newborns from birth to 4 weeks of life.
The goals of this course are
- To provide a concise guideline for the pre- transport and/ or post- resuscitation stabilization activities required for sick neonates
- Provide information useful for everyday care of well and sick infants
- Improve patient safety, reduce errors and preventable adverse events for the target patient population
